Community Help from Florida Blue

Published Monday, March 23, 2020

Florida Blue is committed to the health and well-being of our members and the communities we serve. We have made several adjustments to our policies to combat the spread of COVID-19 while minimizing barriers to testing and treatment. We are also leading efforts to support individuals and communities across Florida, and to protect the safety and stability of our health care system.

COVID-19 Webpage

We have launched a webpage where you can find all of Florida Blue’s latest updates about COVID-19, including most of the information below. You can go to it directly at or link to it from

$2 Million Community Investment

Florida Blue is making an initial investment of $2 million to address urgent and immediate health and safety needs in communities across Florida. The contributions will address food security for seniors and children, support for hourly workers, behavioral health needs and other crisis priorities in local communities.

Bilingual Emotional Support Helpline

Florida Blue launched a 24-hour, free emotional support helpline for all Floridians, in partnership with New Directions Behavioral Health. Any Floridian – even if uninsured or insured by another plan – can call 833-848-1762 for support in managing feelings of stress, anxiety, grief or fear related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Counselors cannot provide information on COVID-19 testing or treatment.

We have attached graphics about the helpline you are welcome to use on your social media channels to share this valuable resource available to everyone in our community.

Expert Advice You Can Share

Florida Blue’s public health expert, Dr. Kelli Tice Wells, has recorded several videos our community partners are welcome to use related to COVID-19 –

We also are providing regular updates on our social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter, in addition to our Florida Blue Blog.

Increased Access to Virtual Health Care

Florida Blue has increased access to virtual health care options for all members to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19. All Medicare Advantage and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) members now have $0 access to Teladoc, which provides 24/7 bilingual virtual care via phone, video or mobile app. We also have waived the copay to Teladoc for many of our commercial plan members.

Sanitas Medical Centers, which exclusively serve Florida Blue members, continues to offer free bilingual virtual care to its current patients via its mySanitas Chat website and mobile app.

Florida Blue Center Virtual Support

We have transitioned our Florida Blue Centers to virtual support and services. Our locally based neighborhood nurses, community specialists and sales and service personnel remain committed to providing personalized support to our members such as helping with questions about COVID-19, testing site locations, community resources, navigating the health care system, finding virtual care options, checking enrollment eligibility and other concerns. They can be reached by calling your local Florida Blue Center’s phone number or 877-352-5830 to be automatically connected to your local Center.

The Gainesville office has also transitioned to phone support. Customers can reach the agent team that was staffing for walk-ins at 352-494-1938 or 352-278-3658. Both numbers are staffed.

Access to Testing and Treatment

In an effort to minimize barriers to testing and treatment of COVID-19, in recent weeks we have:

  • Made COVID-19 testing no cost to our members.
  • Waived prior authorizations for many diagnostic tests and treatments for COVID-19.
  • Increased access to medications by waiving early refill limits for all members.

We have transitioned the majority of our staff to working from home during this time, however we are still here to support our community partners. Feel free to email or call us as we work together help the communities we both serve make it through this crisis.
