Jimerson Birr Attorney Earns Highly Coveted Board Certification In Business Litigation From The Florida Bar

Published Tuesday, August 20, 2019

Jimerson Birr attorney Austin T. Hamilton earned Board Certification in Business Litigation from The Florida Bar, a distinction less than 0.3% of all lawyers in Florida have achieved.

Board Certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar for the skills, special knowledge, proficiency, professionalism and ethics of attorneys in 27 designated areas of practice. Less than 7% of all lawyers in Florida have earned a board certification, but Hamilton makes six (6) at Jimerson Birr alone.

Hamilton joined the full-service business law firm Jimerson Birr in February 2019. His experience includes representing individuals as well as private and public companies in a variety of business matters ranging in level of complexity. He has tried both jury and bench trials in state and federal court.

“Board certification is a great accomplishment, and Austin’s certification in business litigation is particularly impressive because few have been able to meet those standards,” said Jimerson Birr’s managing partner Charles Jimerson. “We are all very proud of him, and the level of skill and experience he offers our clients.”

Beyond minimum qualifications like years of experience in the practice of law with direct involvement in business litigation, a board-certified attorney in this area of practice must have handled at least 25 contested matters, (eight of which were submitted to the trier of fact,) at least one business litigation jury trial, and have completed 50 hours of approved business litigation certification continuing legal education (CLE) in the three years preceding the application. Once all qualifications are met, the attorney is then peer-reviewed and must complete a six-hour written examination.

“This is a meaningful milestone in my career because it signifies my commitment to the area of law I feel most passionate about,” said Hamilton. “I enjoy working with clients and partnering with them to develop solutions for any of the business issues they may be facing.”
