JAX Chamber, Downtown Stakeholders Announce New Residential Housing Campaign

Live Downtown Jax creates hub for downtown residential housing options

JAX Chamber, Downtown Vision Inc. and downtown stakeholders announced a new campaign –– Live Downtown Jax –– that promotes future and existing downtown housing options Thursday morning. With a focus on bringing 10,000 residents downtown, the campaign features an interactive website, social media campaign and video testimonials.

JAX Chamber Board Chair Debbie Buckland announced the campaign at the Lofts at Jefferson Station. Still under construction, the building is the latest residential housing project in downtown for Vestcor.

Buckland has been involved with downtown revitalization for years, joining the board of Downtown Vision in 2009 and ultimately becoming the DVI chair prior to being named the 2019 Chamber board chair.

“We’ve seen time and again how a downtown can be transformed from simply a business district to a great neighborhood,” said Buckland. “There is incredible momentum right now and I know downtown can be our next great neighborhood.”

Currently there are 5,220 downtown residents living in approximately 3,200 units with another 978 units are under construction, which could push the total to 6,800 residents, according to DVI’s State of Downtown Report.

The Chamber worked closely with downtown developers to create a campaign that would work for every company. The developers gave feedback throughout the research and development process in order to create an interactive site and concept that would showcase the many housing options available in downtown.

“The key to this campaign is that we have the developers – who at other times are competitors – in the same room, working together for the same goal,” said JAX Chamber President & CEO Daniel Davis. “When we get 10,000 people living in downtown Jacksonville, that’s good for everyone.”

Developed by Wingard, livedowntownjax.com features an easy-to-navigate interactive map where users can easily view all current and future downtown residential housing options. Current downtown residents tell their own stories of why they chose to live downtown  in video testimonials on the “Meet Your Neighbors” page. Keep track of the campaign at #livedowntownjax
