Former Assistant State Attorney Joins Jimerson Birr

Jimerson Birr is a full service business law firm focused on providing legal advice and enduring value to business of most any industry

Published Thursday, June 27, 2019

Jimerson Birr has hired accomplished trial lawyer Samuel B. Friedman to join the firm. His practice will focus on all aspects of business litigation.

Mr. Friedman formerly served as an Assistant State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit in Jacksonville where he was hand-picked for State Attorney Melissa Nelson's first incoming class. While in the State Attorney’s office, Mr. Friedman handled a wide range of cases, from small third-degree felonies, to first-degree felonies that are punishable by life. He handled a large case load and tried over a dozen cases to jury verdict, including playing a vital role in the prosecution in the case of State of Florida v. Michael Haim, murder trial that received national recognition.

“Sam is a bright young turk, with high energy and a relentless work ethic that matches the character of our firm,” remarked Managing Partner Charles B. Jimerson. “Jimerson Birr attorneys do not confuse efforts with results. Sam brings trial experience prosecuting matters of the highest consequence, where the results of his work can literally mean life or death. An attorney with his practice of thorough preparedness fits the culture of our firm well, because we see the success or failure of our litigation representation making or breaking a client’s business. Sam will fit in nicely here, and I’m confident our clients will love working with him.”

Mr. Friedman received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina College of Law, where he graduated cum laude. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland. While in law school, he was an editor for the ABA Real Property, Trust and Restate Law Journal, and received two CALI book awards in Criminal Law and Energy Law.

Mr. Friedman is originally from Baltimore, Maryland and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2017. He moved from South Carolina to Florida when he joined the State Attorney’s office and has called Jacksonville his home since.
