In an effort to address the lack of access to venture capital for women-led companies and those based in the southeastern United States, GuideWell Innovation is teaming with Springboard Enterprises for a 10-week scale-up accelerator exclusively for health technology or medical device companies with at least one founder who is a woman and are headquartered in the Southeastern U.S.
For the summer 2019 cohort, GuideWell Innovation partnered with Springboard Enterprises, a venture catalyst that accelerates the growth of entrepreneurial companies led by women through access to essential resources and a global community of experts. Springboard is the leading network of influencers, investors and innovators dedicated to building high-growth companies led by women who are transforming industries in technology and life science.Since launching its first program in 2000, Springboard has worked with 769 women who have raised $9.5B in capital and resulting in 19 IPOs and 190 M&A exits.
GuideWell Innovation is currently accepting applications for the summer cohort of five to 10 health tech companies with at least one founder or key executive who is a woman and collectively own at least 25percent of the applicant company. GuideWell Innovation will consider health/wellness technology companies that address critical gaps in providing affordable, accessible health care or holistic health/wellness solutions for diverse populations and communities in the United States. In addition, companies must be headquartered and have a minimum of 50 percent of its staff located in the southeastern U.S. (Fla., Ga., Ala., Miss., La., N.C., S.C., Tenn., Ky.). No equity or program fees are incurred by companies that are selected to participate.
“We are interested in enabling growth in health technology ventures that have the opportunity to solve big problems and reach large markets in the U.S. health care industry,” said Kirstie McCool, executive director of GuideWell Innovation. “Both women-led startups and the southeastern U.S. are lagging in access and closure of venture capital. We are honored to have an opportunity to help accelerate the growth and financing of amazing companies within this ‘double jeopardy’ demographic.”
Springboard and GuideWell Innovation share a vision to transform health care through collaborative innovation and will tap into their collective networks to fast-track the delivery of next-generation health solutions led by women. The GuideWell Innovation Center, which is located in Orlando’s Lake Nona Medical City, is led by veteran entrepreneurs and has hosted hundreds of health, investor and entrepreneurship events since opening its doors in 2016.
“The combination of Springboard’s network of entrepreneurial women who transform industries with GuideWell Innovation’s access to health care industry experts will provide invaluable options for the selected cohort companies to source advisors, partners, and customers,” said Amy Millman, President of Springboard Enterprises. “We are thrilled to be collaborating with GuideWell Innovation to leverage our 19-year track record and global alumnae network to women-led companies that hail from a region of the U.S. that has been underserved by venture capital.”
Companies should apply by Friday, May 31. For complete details on the scale-up accelerator and the application process, visit https://guidewellinnovation.com/guidewell-scale-up-accelerator/.
