Nonprofit Center Leadership Accelerator announces cohort of community changemakers working to improve Jacksonville?s communities of color

The Accelerator will build the capacity of the selected cohort over the course of 12 months

Published Thursday, July 26, 2018

Today, the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida announced the selection of 12 outstanding leaders of color to participate in an innovative pilot program, thanks to the generous support of JPMorgan Chase & Co. These 11 individuals will be the first cohort to participate in the Nonprofit Center Leadership Accelerator, a program that invests in leaders of color making an impact in their community. The Accelerator includes coaching, skills development, and network building, providing high-test fuel to propel their organizations toward maximum impact, and guided by the continuous, contextual, and collaborative approach that is central to the Nonprofit Center’s philosophy.

The pilot will focus on community changemakers of color who head organizations – nonprofit or social impact– that operate in the areas of workforce development, community development, or social entrepreneurship. Research shows that leaders of color are often excluded from traditional systems and institutional resources when it comes to solving issues facing their communities. The Accelerator will aim to tackle this issue by investing in local leaders of color, blending proven capacity building practices with innovative collaboration and resources.

The participants in the inaugural year of the Leadership Accelerator are:

  • Douglas A. Taylor
  • Sabrina Ferguson
  • Tia Keitt
  • Shanna Carter
  • Jolisa Brinson
  • DeWitt Cooper
  • Jonathan Blackburn
  • Marcia Brown
  • Jerome Mosley
  • George Maxey
  • Elaine Jacobs
