Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Jordan Yamamoto pitched six innings in his Double-A debut, before second baseman Isan Diaz and shortstop Joe Dunand hit seventh-inning home runs in a 3-2 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of 2,213 on Half-Price Yuengling Monday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Promoted from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville last Wednesday, Yamamoto worked around two hits in the first inning and one in each of the next three innings to keep Chattanooga (5-13 second half, 41-46 overall) scoreless through the first five innings, with five runners left on base.
The Lookouts broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning against Yamamoto. Center fielder Taylor Motter and first baseman Zander Wiel hit consecutive one-out doubles to right-center field, and right fielder Jaylin Davis hit an RBI single to center field for a 2-0 lead. Yamamoto retired the next two batters, completing six innings and allowing two earned runs on eight hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Chattanooga right-hander Sean Poppen shut out the Jumbo Shrimp (6-12, 34-52) for the first six innings, allowing two hits but getting double plays to face the minimum through six innings. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jacksonville left fielder Brian Miller hit a leadoff single to left field, and Diaz hit a one-out, two-run home run to right field, tying the game, 2-2. Two batters later, Dunand hit a two-out home run over the left field ribbon board for his first Double-A home run and a 3-2 Jacksonville lead. Poppen allowed three earned runs on five hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Jumbo Shrimp pitchers retired the final 11 Lookouts in order. Left-hander Miguel Del Pozo (3-0) was perfect in the seventh and eighth innings, before left-hander Dylan Lee pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second Southern League save.
